If you are a member of famous mailing list, sometimes it could be not easy to figure out which mail is including your mail address as a recipient.

I'm recommending you to use gmail if you want to handle mailing lisg properly.

Gmail handles mails as thread and let you know which mail topic is issued in latest, and even giving a filter option that you can simply filter and categorized in each lable you want.

Let me give you an example.

I use linux-media list and my email address is dongsoo.kim *at* gmail.com. And I want email in my inbox only which pointing me as main recipient or as a CC address.

Then you can use gmail's filter and lable and archive option for that.

Open you filter menu in gmail which located right of the search box at the top of gmail web UI.

And in my case I fill following fields like this


For the list descriptor, that represents "mailing list" so, you can simply designate your mailing list. After that word has issued as a filter every single mail on mailing list should filtered with this filter.
And for the next move, you should declare a single word which should be representing your email address..or to go easier, just write down your email address which is signed in that mailing list.
I used  "dongsoo" for that. As you see, that should be very unique. whom else could be dongsoo in linux-media :)

After that, click on "Next step"
You can see following screen on your screen.

You just excluded your email from filter and now you should want other mails from mailing list to be archived, which means that it doesn't pops out as a new mail arrived. It just being stored in your mail storage and remains there.
To be clear, you can make your own label for your mailing list. For me, I made V4L2 for that.

If you have some mails filtered by this, you can see a button like above, or you will only see "OK" for instead.

From now, you can have mail from mailing list in your inbox only if that mail points you as recipeint of as CC.
